Skateboarding is not a sport, not traditionally anyway. It’s more than that.
It’s a melting pot of creative outcasts, it’s a form of expression, a culture, a family. Skateboarding has taught me a lot about bout life. You’re going to fall, it’s gonna hurt real bad and you have to pull yourself back up and try again. Skateboarding is humbling, but it honours creativity, dedication and willingness. Try hard, give it your all and your mates will be there with you.
Skateboarding is also where my photography journey began. “Shoot what you know” was a quote I heard early on and I ran with it. The friend’s I’ve met and the times I’ve had thanks to a wooden board with four little wheels is crazy. Some of my fondest memories of my teens, twenties and thirties are of sessions at the skatepark with my misfit mates and that beautiful feeling of flow.
Editing this selection was tough, there’s thousands of images from over a decade of photography and I’d love to create a book when it’s “finished”. Until then, enjoy my life through skateboarding. D
